Business Translation

You put a lot of time and effort in writing original documents. You don't want to lose all of that work when you have it translated.

It’s funny when other people get translation wrong…

And it’s not just the little people you get ‘Lost in Translation’, here are a few examples of the big boys getting things disastrously wrong:

When Kentucky Fried Chicken translated their slogan “Finger likin’ good” into Chinese it came out as “Eat your fingers off”

In Italy, a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water.

When General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, it was apparently unaware that "no va" means "it won't go."

…we’ll make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

You’ve got to admit that they are funny, but you don’t want to be the one to be laughed at.

So, ensuring your marketing material is translated accurately is critical. Not just for your company or your clients it’s vital for your career.

To avoid mis-translation, we only use qualified in country translators. They know the local market and its customs. This ensures that your adverts and promotions have the desired effect when localised into your target language.

Cultural relations

For many years, the Federal Republic of Germany and Pakistan have been engaged in effective scientific exchange, the major component of bilateral cultural relations. The main institutions active in this field are the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Presently about 1200 Pakistani students study at German universities and the number is expected to rise. Every year, more than a dozen scholarships from both institutions are awarded under a regular programme to Pakistani students and scientists. In the spring of 2004, a government scholarship programme was launched on the initiative of and with funds provided by Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology to enable some 40 junior scientists and academics from Pakistan to do their PhD in Germany each year.

The most important single cultural cooperation project was the interdisciplinary programme Karakorum Cultural Area sponsored by the German Research Foundation and concerned with mountain research in northern Pakistan. The project, in which German and Pakistan scientists collaborated from 1989 onwards, ended in 2001. Another individual project is the Rock Carvings and Inscriptions along the Karakorum Highway, which is funded by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and which since 1979 has been engaged in archaeological research in the mountainous region of northern Pakistan.

With funds from the Federal Foreign Office’s special programme for preserving culture in Third World regions, the German Embassy has financed the restoration of the audience chamber of the Shigar Fort in Baltistan. Another important project of the Embassy is the exhibition of works by the German-Pakistani artist Esmet Rahim to be held in Karachi and Lahore in the summer of 2005.
