Business Translation

You put a lot of time and effort in writing original documents. You don't want to lose all of that work when you have it translated.

It’s funny when other people get translation wrong…

And it’s not just the little people you get ‘Lost in Translation’, here are a few examples of the big boys getting things disastrously wrong:

When Kentucky Fried Chicken translated their slogan “Finger likin’ good” into Chinese it came out as “Eat your fingers off”

In Italy, a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water.

When General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, it was apparently unaware that "no va" means "it won't go."

…we’ll make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

You’ve got to admit that they are funny, but you don’t want to be the one to be laughed at.

So, ensuring your marketing material is translated accurately is critical. Not just for your company or your clients it’s vital for your career.

To avoid mis-translation, we only use qualified in country translators. They know the local market and its customs. This ensures that your adverts and promotions have the desired effect when localised into your target language.

Scientific and technological cooperation

Scientific and technological cooperation with India rests on two government agreements (1971, 1974) and a large number of individual agreements between research institutions in both countries. Indian science (particularly space research and IT) enjoys a good reputation in Germany, as does German scientific activity in India. After the US and Japan, India is the third-largest recipient of Alexander von Humboldt scholarships. At present, more than 100 joint research projects are being carried out. Every year there is an exchange of around 200 scientists between the two countries. This exchange was extended in 1998 by the addition of two new programmes. One of these is between the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Centres of Excellence) and six German technical universities, and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development; it provides for nine-month study trips for Masters students to the partner country. The other is an exchange programme primarily designed for younger scientists and engineers and is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Indian Department of Science and Technology. It is funded on the German side by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Since 2001, a group of Indian students and young scientists has attended the annual Nobel prize-winners' conference in Lindau on Lake Constance.

The last meeting of the Indo-German Committee on Science and Technology, which is responsible for overall coordination and for setting priorities in scientific and technological cooperation, was held in Berlin in September 2003. The following priority areas for cooperation over the next one and a half years were identified: biotechnology, environmental research, information technology, medical and health research, space travel, materials management, in particular nanomaterials and polymers, synchroton and accelerator technologies, and new technologies in renewable energy. The next meeting is to take place in India in the spring of 2005.
