Information on how to use this information system
The "Database of Translators" sees itself as a service
exchange for translators and their clients. Publishing houses and
other businesses looking for a translator for their German or foreign-language
texts will find a wealth of qualified translators in this database-assisted
Internet directory.
You can use this information system as a client to look for and
find the right translator for your projects.
Flexible search strategies, a clear layout of the Web site as well
as a quick page setup will help you get the desired result quickly
and accurately.
In place of banner ads, we have used the screen space available
to enable you to access other publishing directories (editorial
offices, proofreaders, copy editors, freelance editors, publishing
teams, final editors, literary agents).
Translators present themselves in this information system on their
own pages, stating their qualifications, competencies and references.
The e-mail and/or homepage link on the translator's presentation
page enable you to communicate with the translator and obtain additional
information quickly.
We give you as the client an opportunity to post translation jobs
free of charge. Your translation job will be sent by us promptly
by e-mail to those subscribers who have the desired language combination.
To ensure a standard registration of the translation jobs offered,
we have developed a standard
form. If you have questions feel free to contact our Customer
Service Representative (Thomas.Busch@lektorat.de
or telephone ++49 40 55 00 79 97).
This year we will be presenting our Publishing Directory at the
following trade fairs:
> Frankfurt Book Fair 2004
Search Functions
The information system offers you a variety of search functions.
General Search
If you want a quick overview of the stored data sets, choose the
General Search for language combinations, country, state, city or
town, or company name. The search result will be a hit list ordered
according to zip code or country abbreviation. A "click"
will take you to the translator's respective presentation page,
which - as already stated - contains a detailed description of the
business, including qualifications, competencies and references.
Refined Search
The search result will usually be a hit list ordered according to
the zip code or country abbreviation. To facilitate your search
for a suitable translator for a specific project, we have divided
the qualification and service profile of the translators into 6
categories with 94 criteria:
>Media branches
>Special knowledge
>Production methods
>Payment
>Other services
If you can describe the requirements for the translation to be
done using several of these 94 standardized retrieval criteria,
this information system will show you very quickly those translators
that meet these requirements. With a click you can go from the hit
list to the presentation pages of the translators.
Key Word Search
If you have a translation with a special requirement that is not
covered by the 94 criteria, you can use the Key Word Search to determine
which translator has listed your special requirement among his or
her 6 key words.
Location Search
For a location-based search we have divided the world and specifically
Europe and Germany into maps. A click on the desired area (country,
German state) will generate a list of those translators in the system
living in this region.
